How to work with me
Community members (not academically affiliated)
If you are a disabled person or member of the disability community with interest in design, art, and accessibility, and who is not affiliated with an academic institution such as a university or college, you are welcome to apply for available positions within the Critical Design Lab, including research assistantships. If you have a project in mind that would be a good fit for a partnership, please email me directly. We are in the process of building the new Critical Design Lab space, which will be open to community members for attending workshops and events.
I
Graduate students
Typically, I accept PhD and M.A. students for graduate mentorship (such as advising your dissertation or thesis) who also want to work in the Critical Design Lab. This will mean that you are interested in the intersections of disability and design, have time to work on collaborative design projects in addition to your writing, and hope for your work to contribute to fields such as critical access studies, crip technoscience, critical disability studies, science and technology studies, feminist and queer studies, intersectionality, history of science and technology, and others.
At York University, I am affiliated with the following graduate programs:
-
Science & Technology Studies
-
Critical Disability Studies
- Gender, Feminist, and Women’s Studies
For information on available funding for graduate students at York, please visit this link.
If you are not at York, but looking for an external reader for your dissertation and it seems like a good fit, feel free to get in touch.
Postdoctoral fellows
If you are a potential postdoctoral fellow with interest in working in Critical Design Lab, please feel free to contact with me. I am open to working with postdocs with training in any field who want to deepen their thinking and practice around critical approaches to accessibility. This includes fellows who do not have prior training in the humanities or social sciences. You may consider applying for postdoctoral funding through SSHRC, Connected Minds at York, and the York Provost’s postdoctoral fellowships for Black and Indigenous scholars.
Undergraduate students
Undergraduate students interested in working with the Critical Design Lab should email me directly for opportunities.
Designers
Designers seeking mentorship in accessibility to build upon their professional training are welcome to email me for collaboration opportunities in the Critical Design Lab, with priority given to disabled designers. The Critical Design Lab website also has many resources that may be of interest to you, including design protocols, handbooks, and a podcast series.
